2012 - A new year, and some new beginnings.

I've spent the last 4 months of 2011 touring around on the Celebrity Summit with the a cappella quartet Western Union. We traveled to a lot of great ports - New York City, Boston, Portland (ME), Halifax, Quebec City, Bermuda... and of course, all over the eastern Caribbean. It was fun, but I'm glad to be back around Chicago.

BUT - only for a few days. I recently was offered a position in the a cappella quintet The Cat's Pajamas, so it looks like soon I'll be moving to Branson, MO! It should be a fun year - lots of performing and traveling, but I'll continue to write as much as possible!

Speaking of writing, I completed a new commission for the wonderful St. Charles Singers, and it was performed at their Candlelight Carols concert this past December. The arrangement is What Songs Were Sung, an old american song, collected by John Jacob Niles. It has a haunting, repetitive melody that just lent itself to harmonization. The St. Charles Singers performed it beautifully, as always. You can listen to a recording here.

I've been singing with the Chicago Chamber Choir since I moved here back in October, and we've made some great music.

This weekend marks our last concert of the season - Soar: Songs of Wind and Sky. We'll be performing some great music by Eric Whitacre, Randall Thompson, and my arrangement of Over the Rainbow. If you're around the Chicago area, come check it out!

Listen to Over the Rainbow here.

You can find info about our concerts here.

Hope to see you there!

Coming up this Saturday, I'll be attending the Harmony Sweepstakes festival up in Skokie, IL. This year it'll be hosted by Home Free - an excellent group based out of Minnesota that I've written a few charts for. They're not performing anything of mine on Saturday, but I'll be there cheering them on - I've never actually had the chance to see them live!

Of course, I'll be checking out all the other groups too. Some great groups have come through the harmony sweepstakes and gone on to successful careers and tours - Chapter 6, Toxic Audio, Naturally 7, m-pact, Idea of North, 6th wave... the list goes on. I think Home Free will be grouped with the best in a few years - they're hardworking, talented guys, and have nowhere to go but up. If you're around Chicago, check them out!

You can hear my arrangements for Home Free below:
O Holy Night
I Wonder as I Wander

These are just samples, but you can find the full tracks and much more on their website.

Enjoy!

I'm about to head to downtown Chicago to officially register for the ACDA conference - I'm pumped! It kicks off tomorrow with some great workshops, concerts, and of course, the booths and exhibits (always a fun thing to explore).

On thursday, you can hear the fabulous Vox Musica perform my arrangement of Black is the Color. I'm really excited to meet the group, and to hear their interpretation!

Friday, Gold Company will be performing at the Swisshotel - always a fun show. It'll be a good time - lots of old friends in the audience, no doubt.

Check out the conference schedule.

Hope to see you there!

So, here we are - my website is up and running! Check out the different sections above - there are audio samples, a biography of yours truly, and a commissioning guide for anyone who's interested. I hope to add more and more content as the weeks go on - an in-depth description of each arrangement / composition I've written, profiles of groups I write for regularly, and any other things that might pour out of my mind.

In addition, you can find any news here, and any other things I find interesting. Enjoy!
